The Rules of a Round

How a hand is played from start to finish

Each round of Blackjack begins by placing a bet. Once the bet is confirmed, the dealer gives every player two cards and takes two for themselves — one card is face up for everyone to see, and the other is placed face down.

Card values are counted as follows: number cards 2 through 10 are worth their face value, J, Q, and K are each worth 10, and an Ace can be worth 1 or 11 — whichever is more favourable for the player's hand. The goal is to get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over, as exceeding 21 means a Bust.

After seeing their cards, the player decides: Hit (take another card), Stand (keep the current hand), Double Down, or Split — depending on the situation. Once all players have taken their turns, the dealer reveals their hidden card and draws according to the table rules. Usually the dealer Stands on 17 or higher.

The player whose points are higher than the dealer's and within 21 wins. If the dealer Busts, all surviving hands win. Equal points result in a Push (tie) — the bet is returned.

Main Bet Types and Payouts

A quick look at what each bet pays

Main Bet

This is the most common bet — beat the dealer and you win equal to your bet (1:1). So a ৳500 bet returns ৳500 in profit.

Blackjack (Natural 21)

Getting an Ace and a 10-value card on your first two cards is a Blackjack. It typically pays out at 3:2 — a ৳500 bet wins ৳750. However, if the dealer also has Blackjack it is a Push.

Double Down

After the first two cards, the player may double their bet and receive exactly one more card. If the outcome is good, the profit doubles too, but so does the risk.

Split

If you receive two cards of the same value, you can split them into two separate hands. A separate bet must be placed for each hand and each is played independently.

Insurance

If the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, the player may take an Insurance bet — worth half the main bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, the payout is 2:1. In the long run, this bet is usually not advantageous.

Surrender

At some tables the player may fold their hand and get back half their bet. In a difficult situation this is a way to reduce losses.

How the House Edge Works

Blackjack has a comparatively low house edge among casino games — especially when you follow the correct strategy. The house edge means that over the long term a small portion of every bet goes in the casino's favour. This figure varies depending on the table rules.

For example, a 3:2 Blackjack payout keeps the house edge very low, whereas a 6:5 payout increases it. The number of decks the dealer uses (usually 6 or 8), and whether the dealer Stands or Hits on Soft 17, also affect the house edge.

At bb44 each table's rules are shown on screen before the game starts, so players can make an informed choice. The Ezugi Live Casino tables offer a real-time experience with professional dealers.

Basic Strategy for New Players

A quick guide to the right decision in every situation

Basic strategy is a mathematically based guide that tells you — based on your hand total and the dealer's face-up card — whether you should Hit or Stand. Following this strategy keeps the house edge at its lowest.

Your Hand Dealer's Face-Up Card Best Decision
8 or less Any Always Hit
11 2 to 10 Consider Double Down
12–16 2–6 (dealer weak) Stand
12–16 7–Ace (dealer strong) Hit
17 or more Any Always Stand
A pair of Aces or 8s Any Always Split

Advice for new players: practise on a digital (software) table first, as there is less time pressure there. Once you are comfortable with basic strategy, moving to a live dealer table becomes much easier. Across Bangladesh, and especially in Dhaka, many players now enjoy live Blackjack on mobile.

Know Your Decks

Playing with fewer decks makes card tracking easier and can in some cases create a more favourable situation for the player.

Strategy

Manage Your Budget

Decide how much you will play with before each session. It is wise never to go beyond a set limit.

Responsibility

Make decisions based on strategy, not emotion

Avoid the tendency to increase your bets after a loss to recover what you lost — this is harmful in the long run.

Tips

Live Dealer vs Digital Blackjack

The difference between the two formats and which one suits you

Feature Live Dealer Digital
Dealer Real person Software RNG
Speed Moderate (depends on the table) At your own pace
Environment Studio or casino floor Fully digital
Minimum Bet Usually higher Often lower
Experience Like a real casino Solo, no pressure
On Mobile Yes, possible Yes, possible

Live dealer Blackjack is for players who want the feel of a real casino from home. A trained dealer deals cards in front of a camera and players make decisions in real time.

In digital Blackjack a computer generates every hand — no waiting, play at your own speed. New players can practise basic strategy here.

Frequently Asked Questions — Blackjack

Answers to common questions about Blackjack

Getting 21 usually means you win, but if the dealer also gets 21 it is a Push (tie) and your bet is returned. If you get a Blackjack (Ace + a 10-value card) on your first two cards, the payout is 3:2 — higher than the dealer's ordinary 21.

Soft 17 is a hand made up of an Ace and a 6 — where the Ace counts as 11. If the dealer hits on Soft 17, the house edge increases slightly. When the table rules say "Dealer hits soft 17", that is somewhat unfavourable for the player.

In digital Blackjack the cards are reshuffled after every hand, so card counting is not effective. Live dealer tables shuffle less often, but card counting is not practically possible online. Following basic strategy is the most effective approach.

It is generally advantageous to Double Down when your hand totals 9, 10, or 11 and the dealer's visible card is weak (2 to 6). With 11 against the dealer, doubling down is almost always worth considering. The rule differs for soft hands (hands containing an Ace).

In digital Blackjack each round takes only a few seconds. At a live dealer table you must wait for other players to make their decisions, so a round usually lasts one to several minutes. Some one-on-one live tables move faster.
